General Overview - Fabric Tensioning Systems

Keeping the fabric tension at a constant level means to

The Fabric Tensioner carries the tensioning roll with the fabric. Moving the gliding shoes of the Linear Tensioner (FELT TENSIONER) or the stretcher arms of the Radial Tensioner (WIRE TENSIONER) into one direction means to tension the fabric, moving it into opposite direction means to release the fabric.

The simplest way to operate a Tensioner is MANUAL TENSION CONTROL. The operator decides to tension or slacken the felt and operates the Tensioner via pushbutton control. The operator needs to measure the actual felt-/wire tension by hand or with a tensiometer.
Maintaining a constant felt-/wire tension in the fabric even under different conditions at the machine is the sole responsibility of the operator.

Automatic Tension Measurement can be realized by using a LOAD CELL, which is mounted at a fixed roll and measures a signal which can easily be transformed into the actual fabric tension.

Measuring the actual fabric tension allows to display the measured value with a TENSION DISPLAY UNIT über so that the actual value of fabric tension is visualized and the manual operation of the pushbutton control of the Tensioner is more comfortable. Sometimes the combination of a Tension Display Unit together with Manual Tension Control is called 'Semi-automatic Tension Control'.

The AUTOMATIC TENSION CONTROL is realized when a Tension Controller compares the actual fabric tension measured with the Load Cell with a pre-set tension value and maintains this pre-set specific tension in the fabric regardless of the surrounding conditions and machine parameters. The Tension Controller as well controls the complete system 'Fabric Tensioner - Load Cell - Tension Controller' and is the most comfortable and common system today.
