Cleaning of paper machine clothing

Due to the universally declining quality of available recycled fiber, , fabric cleaning has become more of a challenge. Stickies, tar and pitch cling to the fabric, creating potential problems when breaking loose in clots. This can cause sheet breaks and build up on suction rolls or dryer cans, which consequently deteriorates the paper quality. These contaminates can lodge in the void volumes of the fabric causing secondary problems such as steadily decreasing permeability (airflow capability), which will lead to a decrease in heat transfer/drying rates, as well as in sheet handling during thread-ups.

The FabriCare™ is an ultra-high pressure cleaning system that is primarily used in dryer sections. However they are increasingly being used for wet felt cleaning due to their unique control features including streak cleaning that is especially important on lightweight grades.

An additional benefit of their use here is their “green” aspect of dramatically reduced water consumption compared to conventional high pressure showers.

Using a FabriCare™ cleaning system guarantees permanently clean paper machine clothing throughout the life of the fabric. For dryer fabric cleaning, the FabriCare™ is positioned where the fabric is wraps a roll to clean the sheet side of the fabric. The cleaning water rebounds off the roll surface back towards the cleaning head, where air handling devices remove the contamination and mist from the process via the integrated catch pan.

  • increased heated airflow efficiency of dryer fabrics
  • maintains uniform cross machine fabric permeability
  • no shut downs for manual cleaning
  • eliminates breaks due to “stickies”
  • improves dryer section runnability
  • reduced water and energy use
